The Corporate Tape Library contains magnetic round reel and cartridge media for use on the MVS, VM, UTS, and Sun Server platforms. The library currently contains approximately 200,000 volumes of data. The tape pool consists of 6 STK 4400 LSM's(Library Storage Modules) configured to support both MVS and VM platforms. Each LSM has the ability to hold a maximum of 6000 cartridges with each cartridge having a storage capacity of 200 MB.

The maximum combined storage capacity for the six LSM's is 7.2 TB. In addition, each unit has a built-in robotic arm used for mounting cartridges and a camera to monitor activity. The robotic arm can travel at speeds of 70mph when mounting tapes. The average mount time is 11 seconds and by having pass-thru ports in all LSM's the maximum mount time is approximately two minutes. In addition to the silos the tape pool has 26 stand alone cartridge drives and 8 stand alone round reel drives. These drives are shared between the MVS, VM and UTS platforms for daily test, backup. and Production workloads. Cartridges not stored in the silos are filed on high density racking systems.

The area is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.The key responsibilities of this area are: Ensure data integrity of volumes Ensure sufficient scratch volumes are available for use Running reports for the user community for tape and carts billing verification Perform software distribution duplication Offsite vaulting for disaster recovery for all platforms Knowledge of software packages such as CA1, VMTAPE and PNMS This area can be reached by calling x 6455.
